Leila Hafzi presented her first collection in Stavanger, Norway, in 1997. The goal has remained unchanged since then: introduce and represent fair and ethical trade in the fashion industry. Future goals include the development of an entirely environmental friendly production cycle.
Every collection has been produced in either Iran or Nepal. The production process is a collaborative effort, and often takes the form of a project where the project group works according to a principle coined "Cultures in Fusion". This involves drawing on the participants' cultural history, resulting in unique creations made by more than one person. Some creations have been worked on by up to four different craftsmen from different cultural backgrounds.
ETHICAL TRADE
The design- and production company, Earthling Wear, now know as Nepal Productions DA, was established in 1997.
Nepal Productions is a member of The Ethical Trading Initiative – Norway, (IEH); a multi stakeholder initiative involving companies, employers' organisations, trade unions and NGOs. IEH’s activities are based on the acknowledgement that companies have a responsibility towards human rights (including internationally accepted labour rights) in their supply chain.
Although Leila has firsthand experience with the groundworks of a developing country, the road to reach our goal will stretch over some time. In countries such as Nepal, the challenges surrounding ethics and ecology are sometimes overwhelming; however, we still keep stressing the issues. Along the way we also seek to support minor developing projects such as school programs.
